Great victory in the seasons opener
Today in the first match of the Latvian championship season, "Riga Football Club" in an interesting game won "Valmiera" - 2:1. Goals were scored by Oleksandr Filippov and Glody Ngonda! On March 19 we will have an away match against "Liepāja".
Last season we played against "Valmiera" four times - one win (1: 0), two draws (1:1, 0:0) and one loss (1:2). In total, we have played against "Valmiera" in the highest league of Latvia 15 times - nine wins, three draws and three losses. The start of the game was awful. Already in the first minute "Valmiera" created a great combination, and at the end of the attack the defender Alvis Jaunzems shot the ball in the far corner (0:1).
Our players reacted very convincingly after conceding a goal. We immediately took ball control and started to make one attack after another. In the fourth minute, the opponent's defender in the penalty are stopped the ball with the hand, and Oleksandr Filippov from the 11-meter mark scored the first goal in the Latvian championship - 1:1. Midfielder Yurii Kendish had a very good chance to score in the middle of the half. The Belarusian footballer from about eight meters could not find the net and shot over the crossbar. "Valmiera" had several good opportunities to counter-attack. In one of the episodes, Raimonds Krollis had an individually good play and in the end forward made a shot little bit wide. The first half ended with a score of 1: 1.
In the second half, "Riga" completely dominated. We should score already in the 53rd minute. "Riga" created a very good combination from set piece, but after Antons Kurakin's shot the ball hit the post. After that Baba Musah also had a chance - after defender's shot opponent's player Emīls Birka stopped the ball on the goal line. "Riga" continued to attack and earned the victory. Glody Ngonda made a good header after Mikael Soisalo's cross - 2:1. Victory in the first game of the season!
The next game will take place on March 19 against "Liepāja". The kick-off at 15:00.
