In UEFA Champions league we will face "Maccabi Tel Aviv"

"Maccabi" from Tel Aviv! Today in the UEFA Champions League qualification draw it turned out that the opponent of "Riga" FC in the 1st round will be the Israeli champion "Maccabi Tel Aviv"! The game will take place on August 18 or 19 in Israel! The winner will be determined in one game!

Already yesterday, UEFA announced five groups in which the teams are divided, as a result of which the number of potential opponents of "Riga" FC was reduced to four teams - Astana (Kazakhstan), Qarabag (Azerbaijan), Maccabi Tel Aviv (Israel) and Dinamo Tbilisi (Georgia). 

"Riga" FC got "Maccabi Tel Aviv", and considering that "Maccabi" was drawn first Israeli champion took the rights to play at home. "Maccabi" in Israeli highest league last season took 87 points in 36 games and first place 14 points ahead of "Maccabi Haifa". "Maccabi Tel Aviv" won championship title for second year in a row and for 23rd time in history of the club, which is the largest amount of titles in Israeli championship. In last eight seasons "Maccabi" has won five championship titles. 

In 2015, "Maccabi Tel Aviv" played in UEFA Champions league group stage, but lost in all six matches. After that two times "Maccabi" qualified for UEFA Europa league group stage tournament. Last season on European stage for Israeli team was failure - 0:1, 2:2 against "Cluj" from Romania, and after two losses with 1:2 against "Suduva" from Lithuania. It should be mentioned that "Maccabi" is the only Israeli club that has never fall out from highest league of their country. 

First qualifiying round game in Tel Aviv must take place on August 18/19. More information will be followed in next days.
